In 1988, the Akira anime was released in Japanese theaters. My friend Mike Cervantez and I pitched in and bought a Laser Disc copy. That movie made a significant impact on me — like many others. I still have the duped copy we made from the Laser Disc.
An iconic Akira poster is Kaneda walking towards his motorcycle. I wanted to create my take on that — done in my style. So that is why I am under the car working on it. The '55 will be my forever project — always something with it.
Proceeds from each sale go to children's mental health charity, The Child Mind Institute.
