Hot Wheels x DSTROYR: The Story Behind the Collaboration
Posted by Jon Chase on
Some things you dream about. Some things find you.
In October 2023, DSTROYR launched an official licensed collaboration with Hot Wheels at the Hot Wheels Legends Tour at Mattel HQ. A limited run of apparel. A full circle career moment. And 100% of profits donated to The Child Mind Institute.

This is the story behind it.
It Started With a Die-Cast
Before the collab, there was a car. My 1955 Chevy gasser, Tri 5 By Fire, was immortalized as an official Hot Wheels 1/64 die-cast. If you're a car guy, you know what that means. It's bucket list territory. The kind of thing you find out about and have to sit down for a second. This happened while I was the Design Director for Hoonigan Industries.

So in 2022, when Hot Wheels approached DSTROYR about taking things further, an official licensed apparel collaboration, it felt less like a business deal and more like a pinch-me moment. Two brands rooted in car culture, one collab built for the people who actually live this life.
The Collection
The Hot Wheels x DSTROYR drop included two pieces: a graphic tee and a hoodie. Both built in black, both featuring original artwork by Jon Chase that fused the iconic Hot Wheels visual identity with the DSTROYR design language. Bold graphics, garage-ready details, and the collab logo printed on the chest of each piece.
The collection launched live at the Hot Wheels Legends Tour at Mattel HQ on October 7th, 2023. It sold out shortly after the release.

More Than Merch
DSTROYR has supported The Child Mind Institute since the beginning. It's not a tag line. It's the reason we do drops — not just for the car culture community, but for kids and families who need access to mental health resources.
100% of profits from the Hot Wheels x DSTROYR collaboration were donated directly to The Child Mind Institute. That's what Deeds Not Words actually means.
The Artwork Lives On
The original Hot Wheels x DSTROYR illustration is also available as a limited edition fine art print. Double matted, printed on luster fine art paper, and hand-signed and numbered by Jon Chase. Limited to 25 prints. This is the only piece from the collaboration still available.
Every print sold supports a donation to The Child Mind Institute.
What's Next
The Hot Wheels x DSTROYR collection is closed. The archive lives in the store for anyone who wants to see what it looked like.
But DSTROYR isn't done. If you want to be first in line for the next drop, get on the list.
